HOPE Curriculum

Helping Others Prevent Escalation Curriculum

Hope Services, LLC is thrilled to announce the launch of our brand new state approved HOPE Curriculum (Helping Others Prevent Escalation), designed to meet the state regulations on training in Prevention of the use of Restraints and Seclusion.

From 2001 until 2017 the State of North Carolina sponsored NCI (North Carolina Interventions) which met regulations mentioned above for many Mental Health, Intellectual/Development Disability and Substance Abuse service providers and agencies. Effective July 1, 2017 all agencies previously utilizing NCI were provided the option to either adopt a new third party curriculum from a list of state approved vendors or to develop a unique curriculum which then would be approved through a rigorous review process by NC Department of Health and Human Services. Hope Services did just this and as of March 21, 2018 was approved to offer HOPE Curriculum!

HOPE Curriculum is broken into three distinct parts.

Part 1: Listening and Learning

A classroom based, multi-media training designed to meet the state requirements for prevention as stated above. It involves both discussion, activity and media to develop the learners understanding of Relationship Building, Behavior Management, Listening & Communication and Self Care/Self Awareness in order to increase skills in positively supporting others in responding to and preventing escalation. This part meets requirements previously used for NCI A.

Part 2: Prevention through Practice

An interactive means of adding to Part 1 or in conjunction with to meet the annual recertification requirement, Part 2 allows participants to further develop and practice utilizing skills identified in Part 1 classroom training. Required with competency testing (in lieu of full classroom training) for annual recertification of Part 1.

Part 3: Physical Interventions

Classroom review of state statutes surrounding client Rights and safe implementation of physical intervention as well as related policies, procedures and individually chosen physical intervention demonstration and training. Physical techniques include strategies to block and release self from another as well as restraints and transports of an escalated person.
